Breaking Free: Shifting Your Focus from Darkness to Christ

I came across the image below today, and it resonated deeply. Many believers find themselves in this situation.

But here’s the truth: no one is forcing us to remain in this place!

When we fail to fully grasp and embrace our identity, position, and authority in Christ, we often create an image in our minds of a condition that Christ has already rescued us from (as the image below illustrates metaphorically). This leads us to focus more on the darkness than on Christ Himself.

As a result, we interpret life and our circumstances through the lens of this misplaced perspective—dwelling on the very darkness Jesus pulled us out of. This perception gradually becomes our real faith experience: the things that truly occupy our thoughts, emotions, and decisions. Over time, this can cause us to stagnate spiritually.

The question we must ask ourselves is: Where is my focus? Is it on daily challenges, the flesh, past mistakes, or the darkness around me—or is it on Christ? It’s worth taking a moment to reflect.

This process of self-examination is what the Bible calls knowledge.

There are three essential tools (if I may use that word) in the Christian life that, in Christ, lead to freedom, progress, growth, and spiritual victory:

  1. A life of prayer
  2. Bible study and reflection
  3. Spiritual understanding and knowledge

When these tools are activated in your personal and daily life, they bring transformation and victory in Christ.
